Star Wars: The Next Generation

Disney has bought Lucasfilm for 4.05 Billion Dollars, has the dark side won or is this Star Wars' "Next Generation" moment?

The quote from George Lucas is very inspiring to me.

"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," he said. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

What we are witnessing is George planning his retirement, and one of his pressing concerns is who will be the guardian of his child Star Wars? George will be 70 when the planned "Star Wars VII" is released in 2015 and it is very clear that he wants the franchise to outlive him. Star Wars is his legacy, from the almost grass roots production in '77 to the billion dollar empire it has become there is no denying the cultural impact of Star Wars. The Disney giant is poised to add this legacy to its already impressive portfolio of Pixar, The Muppets, and Marvel. While there are thousands of questions swirling between Star Wars fans and Disney fans about the implications of this merger I believe it is a new hope for the franchise, and I'll tell you why.

Dr.Sci-Fi on the Sci-Fi Cast

Well I am sci-fi speechless! I am a huge fan of the 70's decibels network. Entrepreneur Myke Hurley drew several amazing shows together into an impressive network of tech, geek, productivity and mac podcasts. Instacast, my podcatcher of choice sits firmly on my home screen because of these shows. My favorite show on the network is The Sci-fi Cast.

Papercraft Back to the Future III Time Train My best friend Stephen made me this exquisite papercraft model for my birthday. He even constructed the rails the train sits on out of paper and glue. I don't have a BTTF:III Delorean but my Mr. Fusion version from BTTF:II will be a suitable stand-in.

#1stTimeSpace1999

Of all my years infatuated with Science Fiction I have never seen an episode of the cult classic Space: 1999. I knew that it had a moonbase in it, and that the primary ship was called the Eagle. I knew that the ships functioned very realistically, based off of NASA principles. I knew that Ged and Dave raved about it on the Scifi-Cast. I knew it took place in the 70's. I didn't know until today, that it is AMAZING!
